Trevor Mendham's Interests
As a writer I am of course also an avid reader. I tend to read any and all
genres, my one requirement is that it be a good story. That
eliminates most chick fic and - unfortunately - much modern "literary" fiction.
I'm a cult media fan and have an embarrassing number of DVDs
with names like Doctor
Who, "Blake's Seven" and "The Avengers". Fortunately
I know better than to talk about this at parties :-)
My interest in Doctor Who has given me an interest in time. I have a collection
of several hundred different clocks and watches.
As you've probably guessed I'm very interested in current affairs and
politics and am a great believer in fighting to
protect our threatened civil liberties.
I used to spend much time and energy on role-playing games. I ran the late,
unlamented fanzine "Secrets of the Koan" and even had
a (very) short-lived column in White Dwarf when it was still a magazine rather than
a catalogue. Nowadays I only tend to play informal, ruleless games that
are more akin to improvisational theatre.
I like games and puzzles in general and was one of the creators of
postal Snowball Fighting. I love the oriental board game of Go though rarely get the opportunity
to play so I'm probably still a mere 15 kyu or so.
I'm also very interested in self-improvement, the
mind and anything "wyrd" - Forteana, etc. I run a site dedicated to strange
stuff as well as helping out with
Invasion Edinburgh. And of course I love all sorts of high tech gadgets and stuff,
everything from memory foam to robots.
There's more, but that will do for now. You can find out the rest by
buying me a drink!
